In this paper the working principle of a steerable air-powered impact mole is described in detail. Determination by model experiments of the cone-apex angle and the maximum deflection angle of the chisel head of the impact mole is introduced. The steerable air-powered impact mole consists of an adjusting system of chisel head and an air hammer system. Both systems are described in detail. The field test of the prototype machine is introduced. The result of the preliminary field test proves that KCM130 steerable air-powered impact mole can be used for directional boring with the help of a radio detective system.
