Use of Visualization Technology to Improve Human Decision-Making

This presentation provides results of a study investigating application ofrn"modern" visualization technology to improve human situation awareness, problemsolving,rnand decision-making in nuclear power generating stations and associated utilityrnsupport organizations. The need for use of this technology in nuclear utilities is growingrnbecause of the vast amounts of data and information now becoming available, which mayrnoverwhelm users with the Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) widely used today. Usersrnmay become buried in the avalanche of information presented to them, and performancernmay be impaired. The presentation contains descriptions of visualization and modernrnvisualization technology, and a few examples of successful visualization applications inrnnuclear utility and other industries.
