OIL-WATER SEPARATOR SYSTEM

Oil-water separators are used in almost every industry for a variety of application. Their uses range from removing oils from seawater to re-circulated rolling mill cooling water at steel plant. rnA prototype oil-water separator system was designed, fabricated and tested at Doha Research Plant (DRP) in Kuwait. This system is a mechanical oil-water separator, and is expected to remove most oil from water. The system utilizes adjustable inclined plates that have a high surface area which attracts the oil out of suspension and collects it on the surface, where a skimmer removes it from the process stream, leaving the seawater intake clean of most of the oil. rnThe overall performance of the oil-water separator revealed that the system is capable of separating oil from water and improving the quality of the fee d water by separating the pollutant oil by 85% without affecting the flow of water.
