Oil droplet diameter is an important factor influencing the performance of a de -oiling hydrocyclone. It directly determines the efficiency and the capability of oily waster water treatment of the hydrocyclone. The distribution of oil droplet size at the wall of a hydrocyclone and its influence factors were discussed in this paper. The samples of oil droplet size at the wall were taken by a kind of pressure suffer device, and the samples in the feed and the downstream outlet were obtained by use of isokinetic sampler apparatus. All the oil droplet sizes were measured by a CILAS laser granulometer. The result suggests that the mean droplet size s at the wall decrease along the axial direction when the hydrocyclone is in proper separation situation. The feed flowrate has an important influence on the distribution of oil droplet size in the hydrocyclone. The mean droplet sizes at the wall of a hydrocyclone decrease with the increasing of the feed flowrate. When the feed flowrate is high enough, the mean droplet sizes at the wall decrease along the axial direction and the separation efficiency is high. The mean droplet sizes will change very little along the axial direction and the separation efficiency will be low if the feed flowrate is too low. The split ratio has little influence on the mean droplet sizes at the wall of a hydrocyclone. The separation efficiency cannot be improved only by increasing the split ratio.
