Ubiquitous systems require to support key functionalities such as context-awareness, cooperation and proactivity, making use of different communication paradigms (Request/Response, Pub/Sub, etc.).Each paradigm is usually supported by specific architectures (such as agent-based, event-driven, P2P and SOA), communication mechanisms (RPC, broadcasting, etc.), and technologies (middlewares, M ANETs, programming languages, etc.). This paper presents a conceptual design of a technology-independent, middleware-based framework intended to reduce the inherent complexity of developing software solutions in an integrated way. The framework is capable of integrating heterogeneous communication-related components.
