THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AGING AND PERFORMANCE IN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER OFFICERS

This project involved testing the non-directional hypothesis that a relationship exists between aging and performance in Air Traffic Control Officers from Trinidad and Tobago. The literature showed that negative relationships existed between aging and performance. To test the hypothesis, a correlational study was adopted using a sample size of 30 Air Traffic Control Specialists. Using the Pearson r, variables were correlated to establish if a relationship existed and its significance. Primary analysis of historical data showed that positive but weak relationships existed between the variables. Further tests of significance showed that the null hypothesis could not be rejected and thus the researcher's hypothesis could not be supported. Further research should be undertaken to conclusively validate if a relationship between age and performance exists using a larger population size.
