The purpose of this paper is to examine the potential uses of the commercially available computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package FLUENT to air quality problems. At the present time the use of sophisticated CFD analysis to solve air quality problems is limited. It would seem that with the development of powerful, yet user friendly CFD software, the time has come to use the capabilities they offer. The paper will focus on one package, FLUENT, as this is the one used by Manhattan College. The paper uses 2 examples, one 2D and one 3D, to illustrate the application of FLUENT to plume problems. In particular the ease of using internal features to generate geometry and meshes is highlighted.
