The Pretreatment System: Chemistry Controls

Cleaning and phosphating are essential steps in the overall coating process of steel and coated steels.rnThe pretreatment system has to work in conjunction with the substrate being coated and the paintrnsystem being applied, to ensure the complete system meets the lifetime expectations of the endrnproduct. If one of these processes is out of control, the performance of the whole system will bernaffected. This paper will discuss the critical aspects of the pretreatment system with respect tornindividual bath chemistries, and the control parameters of each step in the process. It will alsornpresent an overview of the manual, as well as automatic process controls, used today to ensure thernquality and integrity of the phosphate coating.
