Is Taklamakan the Largest Dust Source in Asia?

We examine the flow patterns and features of dust transport over the Tarim Basin. A Lagrangian stochastic model is developed for the purpose. The turbulence statistics and the mean wind field required for the model are derived from the simulations of a regional atmospheric model. Offline tests are carried out to examine the behavior of the Lagrangian model, which is then coupled with the regional model to study whether the Tarim Basin is the biggest dust source in Asia.
