Global Circulation Model (GCM) and Chemical Transport Model (CTM) researchers often expend much effort in documenting and improving their model's representation of aerosol radiative forcing, dynamical feedback, indirect effects, and other aspects of modeling without emphasis on the details of the location of the sources. It seems possible that much of the uncertainty in the IPCC (2001) estimates of dust production is due to poorly resolved sources. In this paper we show results from our high-resolution modeling and suggest that the fine"scale features are likely significant and should be studied with as much effort as other modeling aspects. We demonstrate the potential for high spatial resolution modeling of dust sources and dust storms.
