TOWARDS A MERGED ESSENTIAL CLIMATE VARIABLE DATA RECORD ON OZONE: STABILITY AND CONSISTENCY OF CONTRIBUTING LIMB PROFILERS

Various international initiatives intend to build arnmerged data record on the vertical profile of ozone, anrnEssential Climate Variable, which should allow thernstudy of processes on the long term and at the globalrnscale. With its three atmospheric limb profilers, Envisatrnadds significantly to the pseudo-global ozone profilernmonitoring initiated since 1958 with coordinatedrnground-based networks, and since the 1980s withrnlimb/occultation satellites. Here we use lidar and ozonesondernnetwork data as a transfer standard to investigaternthe stability and consistency of twelve satellite ozonernprofile data records covering altogether the 1984-2012rntime period. This paper focuses on the determination ofrnlong-term drifts and of meridian and vertical features ofrnthe bias and the variability of the satellite data records.
