Urban water supply system is important infrastructure for citizen’s survival, urban safety andrndevelopment. Wenchuan earthquake damaged many harder-hit cities’ water supply pipelines,rnwhich was one of the main forms of the damaged water supply system caused by earthquake. Onrnthe basis of characters of water supply system and experience from the earthquake relief inrnMianzhu City, combining with the characters of Xi’an City where there are long-distance waterrnsupply pipelines and locates in seismic zone, we identify that the Heihe River transfer waterrnchannels and urban water supply pipeline network are the main vulnerabilities of the seismic riskrnin Xi'an urban water supply system. The existing groundwater supply systems and some surfacernwater supply systems are important components of urban emergency water supply. Throughrnsimulating the Wenchuan earthquake, we identified Xi’an City’s temporariness, emergency andrnrestoration programs in water supply after the earthquake, in order to improve the anti-seismicrncapacity and emergency water supply of urban water supply system in Xi’an City and citiesrnnearby.
