A Novel Multipath Routing Protocol in Ad hoc Networks

Ad hoc networks are non-infrastructure networks which consist of mobile nodes. The existing on-demand routing protocol in Ad hoc networks is suitable to the wireless networks which have frequent topology changes. But most Ad hoc routing protocols such as AODV and DSR do not try to search for new routes if the network topology is stable. So traffic may be concentrated on several nodes. Their battery power maybe rapidly exhausted. On the other hand, if nodes move too much, the packet delivery ratio will decreases and the routing overhead will increase. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new routing approach called EIMR (Enhanced Independent Multipath Routing) protocol which resolves the traffic concentration problem by maintaining multiple routes for a destination and distributing packets to each route rationally. In addition, it allows each intermediate node to give up packet forwarding depending on its power and traffic load. We also demonstrate that the performance of EIMR protocol is better when compared to the DSR.
