This paper reports preliminary data from an experimental study on the use of advanced composite materials (ACM) to repair concrete damaged by steel reinforcement corrosion. Small size concrete columns with various reinforcement configurations were cast and subjected to accelerated corrosion conditions in the laboratory. Extensive cracking and partial delamination of the concrete cover occurred after 3 to 6 months of exposure. Several repair procedures were considered, consisting primarily of jacketing the damaged columns with glass fibre wraps, and grouting the voids between cylinder and wrap with various types of grout. To protect the glass fibre material from exposure to alkali activity of the fresh grout, and to reduce the supply of oxygen and water to the mechanism of corrosion, different types of diffusion barriers were considered in the study. The efficacy of each repair system was evaluated by re-applying the electrical potential and monitoring the corrosion rate and mechanical response of the repaired specimens.
