1. Polymer based nanocomposites hold both technical and economic promise. 2. Intercalated Nanocomposites obtained for a range of thermosets and thermoplastics 3. Enhancements in T_(dec), T_g and CTE using conventional OMS 4. Relatively low clay loadings resulted in increased Tg's, glassy behavior activation energies associated with the relaxation. 5. Improvements in flexural modulus, strength and toughness were observed with very little decrease in failure strain 6. Structural evolution depends on rates of: intergallery diffusion(nature of clay, processing); intra vs. extragallery gelation and vitrification. 7. Heterogeneous morphology indicated by mechanical relaxation, TEM and XRD. 8. TTT diagrams developed using DSC cure kinetics and Gel times.
