In this study, we are interested in the properties of the interfacial zone of an adhesive joint made up of a crosslinked EPDM elastomer and a bonding agent. Mechanisms of chain interpenetration and migration of chemical species are responsible for the formation of a macroscopic interfacial zone (I.e. Interphase) in such a joint. Due to its reduced spatial extension and to the limited number of cross-bridging links that are created at the interface, it is very difficult to quantify both chemical and mechanical properties of this domain. An attempt to assess the interfacial adhesive strength by using a fragmentation test in the tensile mode is proposed. For that purpose, various degrees of crosslinking of the elastomer phase and the addition of silica fillers were considered.
