Ionic Liquids at Degussa: Catalyst Heterogenization in an Industrial Process

The use of ionic liquids in hydrosilylation reactions allows for an easy recovery and the subsequent reuse of standard hydrosilylation catalysts. Remarkably, the recovered catalyst/ionic liquid solution does not need to be purified or treated before its reuse. Employing this method a variety of organomodified polydimethylsiloxanes was synthesized.
