Recent Solar Energy Activities in Bangladesh

This paper presents recent activities on solar energy in Bangladesh. Teaching institutes like BUET, IUT, BAU, DU, RUET, CUET, KUET & DUET are carrying out both basic and applied researches as well as offering courses on solar energy in undergraduate and post-graduate level. Research organizations like BCSIR, BRRI, BARI and BAEC are carrying out researches in this area for solving local problems. Most of these studies carried out here on measurement of solar radiation, solar PV-system, solar thermal and design of building and structures considering solar radiation and latitude etc. REB is installing solar PV system for supply of DC Power in remote villages in this country. It has installed country's biggest PV-energy system in remote area. It is also doing various studies on this system to improve' its performance. LGED and Grameen Bank have also installed a number of PV-systems. They are also doing some R&D studies on these PV-systems. In this country unlike a developed one, industries are not doing any R&D studies on solar energy systems.
