Turbulence Characterization of Large Scale Airflows in an Aircraft Cabin Mockup

The objective of our paper is to investigate the turbulence characterization of the airflow in an aircraft cabin mockup. Our experimental investigation was conducted in a full scale7-rows single-aisle aircraft cabin mock-up designed as a generic replica of a section of the Boeing 737-200. The data were collected by using IFA-300 constant-temperature anemometry, which can con-tinuously sense flow velocity and automatically adjust the dynamic response, then accurately measure the flow fluctuating velocity signals. The velocity, turbulent kinetic energy, spectrum analysis and turbulence scales were investigated. We conclude that the air en-trainments decayed the velocities faster than the wall shear stress as shown. The time size step of LES should be less than 1/100s according to our results. The turbulence eddy scales were 4cm to 10cm at the measured area.
