Novel Packet Based Networks (PBNs) have to support advanced multimedia multipoint communication services and telematic applications upon different network types. The communicating behaviour of the user's application entities is formulated through diverse conferencing models, session participating roles and general considerations concerning information transmission delay, errors handling, events and actions synchronization, resources reservation, etc. This paper presents an integrated structure of the control procedures taking place during the establishment and the performance of multimode, multimedia telematic applications, from the PBN-terminal/end-user point of view. The proposed structure considers the ITU-T Recommendations for audio, video and data communication in conjunction with new application entities handling the dynamic conference control and assignment of the user operating attributes. For the application control, we consider abstract operational models and the subsequent identification of the corresponding state-transition diagrams. The results of the present work were tested in real conditions at 24 medical units in Greece, using the telemedicine service provided by OTE.
