A device (ADSEC: Advanced Diffusive Sampling Emission Cell) for measuring emission rates of aldehydes and VOCs from building materials using a diffusive sampler was developed. ADSEC consists of micro-chamber and diffusive sampler. It can be operated without pump. The sampler is inserted after the installation of cell. The size of cell was designed to measure flooring material without covering gap between two pieces. Indoor air quality in the actual house was measured using ADSEC. Ventilation rate calculated from the emission of formaldehyde measured by ADSEC from floor, wall, and ceiling was slightly higher than that measured by PFT method. It was confirmed that the ventilation rate was lower in autumn because windows were closed nearly all the time. Passive method for VOCs was also developed and discussed.
