TRAVEL DEMAND MODELING OF AUTOMATED SMALL VEHICLE TRANSIT ON A UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

A system to transport people into and about closely spaced activity centers continues to be an unmet need in the North American transportation infrastructure. Although many new technologies have been proposed to increase the responsiveness of public transit systems, very few analysis tools and methodologies exist to objectively compare existing mobility practice to predicted practice with one of these new or improved systems in place. This study introduces a methodology for comparing the before and after impact of a proposed installation of a new transit system, and presents the results for a North American Mid-West University campus for which a Personal Rapid Transit concept is studied.
