EFFECTS OF HEAT STRESS ON THE REGENERATIONOF INJURED SKELETAL MUSCLE IN RATS

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectsrnof heat stress on the regeneration of injured mammalianrnskeletal muscles. To activate a necrosis-regenerationrncycle, cardiotoxin (CTX) was injected into the leftrntibialis anterior (TA) muscle, except for the normalrncontrol group. Rats in the heat-stressed group werernexposed to heat in a heat chamber 24 hours before orrnimmediately after CTX injection. The muscle proteinrncontents in the heat-stressed group were significantlyrnhigher than the non-heated group 28 days after CTXrninjection (p<0.05). The CTX-injection-related incrementrnof Pax7-positive nuclei in the heated group was greaterrnthan that in the non-heated group. Evidences suggestrnthat heat-stress could activate satellite cells, promote thernproliferation and the differentiation of satellite cells, andrnfacilitate the regeneration of muscle.
