A potential of polarimetric radar for monitoring and forecasting of heavy rainfall and extreme weather in East Asia

1.Introduction Polarimetric radar is a useful tool to estimate rainfall intensity precisely and to obtain the microphysical information of precipitation particles.We have been trying hydrometeor classification with X-band polarimetric radars of Nagoya University (Kouketsu and Uyeda,2009).Validations of the hydrometeor classification method have been carried out in several regions (Kouketsu et al.,2013).
