Introduction The research of typhoon intensity has always been difficult in present,and retrieving typhoon intensity via geostationary satellite make up the lack of conventional observation data.Recently,some new different approaches have been developed by employing infrared window (IRW) imagery from the geostationary satellite.Pineros et al.(2008,2010) introduced the deviation-angle-variance (DAV) metric to quantify the axisymmetry of the infrared cloud signature of a tropical cyclone as an indirect measurement of its maximum wind speed.
