PREVENTING LOSS OF RIGHT TO PATENT

Under certain circumstances, federal law mandates that an Inventor can lose the right to obtain a patent on an invention due to what are known as "statutory bars". Inventors should become familiar with these bars and know how to avoid them in order to prevent loss of patent rights. This familiarity has particular importance because some of the bars are completely within the control of the Inventor. This paper provides the Inventor with a summary of the statutory bars so that common pitfalls can be avoided.
