A commercial Near-Infrared Transmittance NIRT) Whole GrainAnalyzer was calibrated to analyze corn moisture, protein, oil, and starch and sorghum moisture, protein, and starch with market channel samples collected across the United States. The correaltion coefficients betwene the NIRT data and the chemical data for corn moisture, protein, oil, and starch were 0.96, 0.77, 0.70, and 0.42 respectively; and for sorghum moisture, protein, and starch were 0.98, 0.96, and 0.95 respectively. the low correlations for the corn protein, oil, and starch were primarily due to the narrow distribution ranges of these constituents as well as the large and irregular shape of the kernels.
