Machine Simulation of human reading has been the subject of Intensive research for many years. Much research has been devoted to the recognition of Latin, Chinese and Japanese characters. Against this background, it is experienced that only few papers have specifically addressed the problem of Arabic text recognition. This paper is devoted to one way of addressing the problem of recognition of the printed Arabic text. The adopted recognition system consists of three crucial steps. Preprocessing for noise removal, Segmentation of the text to individual characters, Classification and Recognition of the character. Recognition of the character is done using the Syntactic approach.
