Development of Artificial Receptor for stanozolol analysis

Anabolic hormones have been used to improve rates of protein deposition for many years. Although the use of steroids or synthetic steroids is licensed for specific applications in some countries, in others their illegal use is prohibited. At present, anabolic hormone residue detection relies on random sampling and screening using centralised laboratory. This current screening practise is costly due to the non in situ nature of the analysis employed as well as the time lag involved (typically 24-36 hours). Moreover extensively trained personnel are required to conduct the analysis. Therefore the development of simple to-use, rapid and cheap method for the detection of these compounds is becoming crucial. In this study we report on the use of combinatorial chemistry approach combined with molecular modelling for the construction of artificial receptors for stanozolol. Databases were constructed using the appropriate building blocks and these were screened against the target compound. Different receptor sequences were then constructed and screened using ELISA and Biacore optical sensor. Preliminary results indicated the potential of using this approach for stanozolol receptor construction.
