Abstract: Some 30 samples of writing and wrapping paper wereexamined using two techniques: transmission (as a KBrdisc) and diffuse reflectance. About 15 blue ball penink samples were extracted directly from the documentby means of a C$-2$/H$-5$/OH -CHCl$-3$/ mixture usingan extraction apparatus which enables the separation ofimpurities (coming from a paper) from the extractedball pen inks. Infrared spectra were measured on aDigilab Fourier transform spectrometer FTS-15 withinthe range 400 - 3800 cm$+$MIN@1$/. Statisticalinference based on T$+2$/ Hotelling's test to assessthe significance of differences observed in IR spectraof samples without examining the origin and essence ofthose differences was applied. The analysis of thespectral data was performed on a IBM-AT computer.!3
