Simulation of the finite element method on wave propagation in cylinders

This paper studied the application of finite element method (FEM) in analyzing the propagation of elastic waves in cylinders. The spatial and temporal steps of discretization of the finite elemental computation are discussed. The displacement fields excited by a pulsed line-source with 5 MHz center frequency in cylinders are computed and displayed by color images. The wave forms of receiving points in the surface of the cylinders, identified as A-scan results, are also shown. The comparison between the finite elemental and experimental results show that FEM is a good way for the simulation of the wave propagation in cylinders.
