APPLICATION OF RESIN-IMPREGNATED PAPER-LAMINATED PRODUCTS

Paper-laminated products, manufactured with the Helisys LOM machine and KIRA Solid Center, were impregnated with thermosetting epoxy resin. In order to utilize resin-impregnated paper-laminated (RIPL) products, a RIPL propeller coated with alkyd resin was operated in water and also a RIPL casing coated with alkyd resin was subjected to internal pressure test in a water vessel Soluble cores (PVA + glass fiber) were injection-molded using RIPL molds. RIPL test pieces with various types of coating were given heat resistance test in a heat chamber. It was found that (1) RIPL coated with alkyd resin prevents moisture absorption to maintain steady dimensions and strength, (2) RIPL models can be used in water for a few days. (3) RIPL molds are applicable for injection-molding up to a temperature of 200℃ in small quantity, however, thin sections of the mold walls are damaged by the melted resin flow, and (4) RIPL can be substituted for wood patterns.
