GLAZED ATTIC SUNSPACES IN SCOTLAND: PERFORMANCE OF NON-OPTIMISED SUNSPACES IN A HOUSING PROJECT IN ALEXANDRIA, SCOTLAND

Whilst thermal standards in housing in Britain have gradually improved, ventilation provision in housingrnremains problematic. Too much results in excessive heat loss, whilst too little can cause condensation and concomitantrnhealth effects. This paper describes the construction and initial monitoring of a new build housing project in Alexandria,rnScotland, that incorporates a glazed attic element as a means of pre-heating ventilation air. The preliminary resultsrnindicate that these glazed elements produce useful temperature lifts, despite having other requirements concerningrnbuilding form and natural lighting, and being non-optimised for solar gain.
