This work is motivated by the desire to build a very high-speed massively parallel packet-switch/router with extremely high line rates. In this work, we consider building a packet-switch/router from multiple, lower speed packet-switch/routers operating independently and in parallel. In particular, we consider a (perhaps obvious) parallel packet switch/router architecture in which traffic is routed over identical, lower speed packet-switch/routers. Each of these low speed packet switch/routers contains an independent control plane, which includes the appropriate routing protocols. These low speed packet switch/routers maintain routing table coordination with each other with a proprietary link state coordination protocol named GLUE.rnA search of the literature on multi-protocol routing redistribution was noteworthy in the lack of work in this area. The search referenced primarily a set of "how to" texts provided by the large incumbent router vendors. As a result we develop a set of goals for multi-protocol route redistribution as well as a rationale for multi-protocol route redistribution and a routing protocol sensitive set of rules.
