IT systems are playing an increasingly important role in health care. This paper describes a system developed to support the use of patient care plans in hospital wards. These plans list the tasks performed by medical staff. The architecture of the system is described in detail. The system incorporates standard coding systems used by nursing staff for diagnosis and intervention. This particular application is an example of an IT system which can be changed to meet individual user needs.
