Dynamic behaviour of wood-framed houses was investigated using 1/5 model. The model of the two storey house was built on foundation made of steel frame, and it consisted only structural wood frames i.e. columns, beams, bracings and equivalent iron weights (1/5~3 of real weight) to substitute for walls, floors and roofs. The foundation made of iron frame was laid on the rollers, and horizontal dynamic vibration was exerted to the foundation by the actuator. Influence of position and direction of bracings on the vibration behaviour was investigated. Difference of configurations of bracings, for example, inverse V, V and X types gives great influence on shear resistance i.e. deformation and natural frequency. The inverse V shaped brace arrangement is better than V shaped arrangement to resist seismic vibration. In the former case, axial stress of the columns is smaller than in the latter case. Rigidity of the connections between column and ground lumber is important for the shear rigidity of houses. Rocking and overturning behaviour of a bookcase was also investigated comparing the bookcase on the 1st and 2nd floor, and also compared under horizontal shaking and inclined shaking with vertical component. A bookcase on the 2nd floor in shaking with vertical component overturned more easily than on the 1st floor and/or in horizontal shaking. Vertical shaking component is an important factor to consider about damages by earthquakes.
