Grinding is frequently used in material processing. However, spark-outrnpasses are often necessary to compensate for tool deflection. In order to avoid thisrnproblem, the compensation methodology is developed. During grinding, the force isrnmeasured, and the instantaneous depth of cut is increased by the amount predictedrnby a compliance model of the system. This compensation dramatically improves thernsurface parallelism. Further compensation is done by planning a feed rate trajectoryrnbased on minimizing a cost function of machining time and accuracy. Combiningrnthis feed rate profile and the previous scheme further reduces the parallelism error.
