Field experiments were conducted to evaluate the impacts of earthworm-organic matter system ( EOS) on soil physical, chemical and microbial properties, tea yields and quality in tea plantation in South China from 2004 to 2007. In this experiment, Earthworm (A. corticis and A. robustus) and organic matters ( Cocos and animal manures) were selected and applied in fields. Four treatments were designed: 100% EOS; 50% EOS + 50% chem. -fertilizer + biopesticides; 50% EOS + 50% chem. -fertilizer + chem. -pesticides; 100% chem. -fertilizer (CK). Soils from EOS decreased remarkably soil bulk density and rigidity and had higher level of TOC, total N, NH/ , NO3- , available P and K, soil respiration than soils from CK. PCA results indicated that EOS can promoted the changing of soil physical characteristics after 12 months, increased the contents of available nutrient after 24 months, and enhanced the soil biological properties after 36 months. Moreover, tea yields were sustained but its quality increased significantly in soils from ECO than soils from CK in these three years.
