Stimulating Effect of Antioxidants on Plant Growth at Low pH and Mineral Deficiency

Mineral deficiency is an important factor limiting plant growth on acid soils. Effects of antioxidant ambiol added to the root zone of wheat and rice plants grown under mineral nutrition deficiency on growth rate of leaves have been studied. The leaf growth rate was measured by means of a laser interference auxanometer. Antioxidant increased leaf growth rate of plants. Two stages of response reactions of leaves on effects of antioxidant were observed: rapid (immediately after addition of ambiol) and slow ( within 2 - 3 h after addition of ambiol).
