GUIDELINES FOR EFFECTIVE SIMULATION IN MANUFACTURING MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL

System simulation has become well established in decision making in design, planning and control across manufacturing and service industries and beyond. The notion of testing ideas out in advance of commitment to investment or change is a powerful one in a competitive environment. However, the approach to deploying simulation in an organisation is important. The paper first reviews such simulation in a manufacturing context and reports a survey of perceived obstacles to success. It then reflects on a further survey regarding user experience and potential actions, discussing guidelines for effective simulation use.
