In the past decade, electric vehicles (EV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) have become more and more attractive because of their environmental advantages such as zero emissions or ultra-low emissions, low noise, high energy efficiency, and reduction of our dependence on imported oil. With the increasing demand for clean transportation tools, the governments, environment organizations and consumers around the world are demanding lower cost, higher safety and longer-ranging vehicles, all of which are determined by the performance of the battery that fuels the mobile equipments. Large format Polymer Lithium-ion Battery is the best power solution for EV and HEV applications, due to its high energy density and long cycle life. However, LiCoO_2 chemistry is not suitable for large format Polymer Lithium-ion Battery, because that LiCoO_2 material is very expensive and unsafe. Shenzhen B&K Electronics Co., Ltd. has been working on a novel power battery with advanced approaches. By using Li(NiCoMn)O_2 or Lithium Iron Phosphate as the cathode materials, and gel polymer electrolyte, B&K has solved the problems of cost and safety in large format lithium-ion battery; its Polymer Li-ion Power Battery reaches the goal of high safety and low cost.
