Solar energy has tremendous potential to supply the world's energy needs. One hour of sunlight provides more energy than the world consumes in a year [1]. However, solar energy is also very costly compared to other energy resources and therefore contributes less than 1% to the world's energy consumption [1-2]. Organic photovoltaic (PV) solar cells may be the key to reducing the overall cost of PV systems by utilizing high throughput manufacturing techniques such as reel-to-reel or spray deposition [3]. Before these devices can be realised, there are a few challenges to overcome. In a broad sense, the efficiency, stability, and manufacturing of these devices all need to be addressed.
