A large number of polymer molecules with aromatic units and conjugated double bonds in the main chain have bandgaps with a range of 1.5 approx 4.0 eV. Absorption of a photon with energy in the above range yb the polymer molecules results in a light emission on a process of returning to the ground state from the excited state of an electron.
