A versatile experimental setup for measuring the magnetocaloric temperature change, ΔT_(ad), of magnetocaloric materials has been designed and built at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). The facility is being used to develop a databank of the magnetocaloric effect of promising magnetic refrigerants. The setup is capable of handling powder and bulk samples of different shapes and characterizing them in a temperature range between 250 and 350 K. The facility was validated through measurements of ΔT_(ad) (for magnetization and demagnetization) of MnFe(P,As) samples with a first-order magnetic phase transition and Curie temperatures of 290.0, 284.7 and 313.7 K. Heating and cooling thermal cycles were performed.
