The influence of the incorporation of boron on the magnetic properties in the giant-magnetocaloric materialsrnMn_(0.95)Fe_(1.05)(P_(0.5),As_(0.5)) has been investigated. It has been found that boron acts as an interstitial element in the material, which has the hexagonal FeR2RP phase as its prototype. As the boron concentration is increased, the Curie temperature was found to increase and the thermal hysteresis was slightly decreased while preserving the first order magnetic transition. This shows that interstitial elements can be used in these materials to improve the magnetocaloric properties.
