Intelsat Ltd. (IS), SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation (SJC)rnand IHI Corporation (IHI) conducted a joint study tornevaluate accuracies and error covariance of determinedrnorbits for IS and SJC satellites by using solo opticalrnobserved data from IHI optical observationrndemonstrator, and combined data from tradition rangingrndata. Optical data has proven to be very useful forrnspace surveillance and close approach monitoringrnproviding improved orbital knowledge of both activernand non-active space objects. As satellite operators wernare also interested in using optical data to complementrnour standard ranging measurements to improve our orbitrnuncertainties and help to resolve and calibrate sensorrnbiases. In the first phase of our join study IHI providedrnoptical observations for both IS and SJC satellites andrnwe will present the multi-objectives of our join studyrnand preliminary results in the orbit comparisons andrnerror estimations from different fusion techniques.
