A low-power sound recognition system is designed to recognize a short-period sound, such as a gun shot or a discrete-time sheech. The system consists of two parts: a high-sensitivit polysilicon diaphragm condenser microphone and a low-power mixed signa sound recognition chip. The microphone uses the low-stress polysilicon diaphragm suspended above a p+perforated back plate and is fabricated by the combination of surface and bulk micromaching techniques. The sound recognition chip uses the analog filter banks with energy method and is implemented by both MOS analog and digital integrated circuit techniques. The total power consumption is about 8.5 mW, with is very suitable for low-power and small-size application.
