Development and production of heavy-duty and complex castings for the automotive industry-an exemple of the innovative use of art and experience in the field of casting engineering

The art of casting includes an aesthetic and a practical component. Both of them result from the wide range of possibilities casting has offered since its inception for designing a given object. Using an automobile cylinder head - a complicated casting in respect of geometry and design - as an example, the authors demonstrate the many possibilities existing for optimising casting materials as well as casting techniques in such a way that high-quality cylinder heads can be produced in a cost-efficient way.
