Industry/Government Research Partnership To Improve The Energy Efficiency And Productivity Of EAF Steelmaking

To address the research needs of the steel industry, the DOE and industry are working together in a joint partnership. The DOE and the iron and steel industry are partnering on projects such as the Development of the ASCAT Tool, Direct Steelmaking, Improving EAF Refractory Life, Optical Sensors for EAF Steelmaking, Steelmaker Pilot, and Sustainable Steelmaking to ensure that EAF Steelmaking continues to evolve and advance. These collaborations represent an integral part of the evolution of the technology, as they push to change the fundamental techniques in which steel is made in the United States. These and other collaborative research projects will continue to advance the techniques and processes of EAF Steelmaking well into the future.
