Observations of Peritectic Solidification in the Iron-Nickel System

The peritectic reaction and transformation are important in commercial alloys which are cast at relatively high speed. Direct observations of these phenomena for a hyper-peritectic iron-4.67% nickel alloy have been performed using a Confocal Scanning Laser Microscope. Also, rates of transformation have been calculated and possible rate-limiting steps are discussed.
